The US Government has taken a step towards regulating greenhouse gas emissions.

In a shift of course for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it has deemed that carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare.

The EPA decision marks the first step towards imposing limits on pollution linked to climate change, which would mean tighter rules for cars and power plants.

But the EPA is cautioning that such regulations are expected to be part of a lengthy process and not issued anytime soon.
